The Fundamentals Of Chiropractic
The Fundamentals Of Chiropractic
by Dr. Michelle Irwin
Recently we have been getting questions about how we as Chiropractors are fundamentally different from other doctors out there. The truth is that what it comes down to is not what our end goals are, but rather how we look at the body and what we do to reach the outcome of true health and vitality.
As Chiropractors our profession is based on 33 Principles that are our foundation every day when we look at the body as a whole. The easiest to understand is that our body is smart and wants to be healthy. We use the term Innate Intelligence to describe this. Innate Intelligence is the inborn intelligence of every living thing which maintains the material of the body in active organization, meaning it controls our every process and adapts to the universal forces of the worlds matter that is used in the body for a coordinated action of mutual benefit. For example, this is what causes 2 single cells to come together and begin dividing exponentially to become a full and functioning being – we don’t have to think the process through for it to happen, it either will or it won’t. This is the intelligence of our systems. When there is interference with the expression of Innate Intelligence to the point that it can no longer adapt to the forces and matter it is exposed to, we experience disorder and dysfunction in our system. This is when we seek intervention from the outside. As a Chiropractor we seek to find the cause of the interference and remove it from the nervous system.
The causes of interference are physical, chemical, and emotional. All 3 of these lead to a complex occurrence in the spine called a subluxation. This is something that we will cover in detail next week, but for now, know that this is a result of pressure, tension, or other interference in the transmission of neurologic communication between the brain and the body.
This is a very big subject, so stay tuned to our blogs and learn more about how chiropractic care can help energize your life!
